The Beatniks, Issue 1, Part 1

This is part one of what I intend to be an ongoing exercise.  Inspired by Dean Trippe’s Butterfly, I thought I’d take a stab at writing my own superhero webcomic!  There’s only one problem.

I can’t draw.

So, instead, I’m doing my webcomic in script form and will be putting out a few pages a week.  I’m going to aim for one update a week minimum, but I don’t know what update-day will be yet.

I took the script style from a sample Gen13 script by Gail Simone, so I hope it’s at least close to the correct format.

Web Comics

I’ve mentioned Inverloch before, but there are several web comics I check out every week.  I’d like to highlight a few of them here for you now, and, I hope, spread the love a little bit.

And speaking of little bit, let’s start with Zip & Li’l Bit Funnies, a brilliant, kid-friendly comic in the style of the old Depression-era (I think) Sunday serials.  “Upside-Down Me,” the first complete story starring Zip and his sister Li’l Bit, is done and archived on the site, and their second adventure, “The Sky Kayak,” is off to a good start with eleven installments done as I type this.  It’s updated twice a week.

Seraph Inn: Epilogue

I’ve been reading this for months.  It is that rarest of rare beasts: a regularly-updated webcomic book (rather than comic strip).  It’s a fantasy and a well-done one, too.  It is also something of a quest fantasy, a subgenre I usually dislike, but this is so well-done, I’ve been completely into it.  Her characters are wonderfully done, and it’s neat to see her skill improve as the series continues (and she started off pretty well-skilled in comparison to many webcomics creators).  She’s working on her next project already, and I know it’ll be good AND eventually finished.  Very impressive.  Go read it.  Lucky for YOU, after today, you’ll be able to read right on through to the end.
