Supergirl

I put together a post about my monthly comic buys for July and got confused on how the cut worked and accidentally wiped most of it out and now I’m thinking, “oh, who the frak cares what I’m buying?”

Instead, let’s talk Supergirl, for as much as I adore and love Black Canary, the real reason I’m reading comics at this age is Supergirl or, more specifically, issue #16 of Peter David’s glorious Supergirl series which I came across on a small end-cap display at my local grocery store in late 1997.

Supergirl #16 (1997)

Comics for May 23rd

I get my comics every month in a big ol’ box from my formerly-local comic shop.  It is lovely and convenient and sometimes irritating because I only get my comics once a month.  But this is a good thing, too.  It focuses my comic time to one big blast a month rather than several times a month taking up time I’d like to focus on other things. This is a small “week” for me.

BoP #6

Birds Of Prey #106
(I can’t say I care for this cover very much…)

Countdown #49
No opinion on series yet — I’ve only read the first issue!

Wonder Woman Vol 3 #9
I don’t think Jodi Picoult’s done a very good job capturing Diana at all, though the story has been somewhat engaging, but we’re all just marking time until Gail comes on board.

For 16th May

Countdown #50
First issue (#51) set up an interesting scenario AND focused partially on Mary Marvel.  Cool

Justice League Of America Vol 2 #9
Rolling along with the good

Oyayubihime Infinity Vol 5 TP
Terrific, engaging romantic fantasy that keeps you guessing about who will end up with whom and makes you want EVERYONE to end up happy in the end.

Supergirl Vol 5 #17
I just found out Joe Kelly is leaving in two more issues!  Who will take over?  What will become of the revitalized Kara Zor-El?!

I missed this last week’s list!

Oops.  Oddly enough, I already have them, too.  I’d requested that 52 #52 be sent to me right away and they packed up all my pending comics and sent them along, so I’m current until the 16th.

Very thin week, though:

COUNTDOWN #51
This seems to be starting well, and I’m all intrigued by Mary Marvel–she’s third on my list of Top Three Comic Heroines (Black Canary, Supergirl, Mary Marvel)–so this’ll be good.

Y THE LAST MAN VOL 9 MOTHERLAND TP
I am criminally behind on this series but have been collecting the trades.  I think I’ll eventually just spend a weekend day reading the whole series.

This weekend is Anime Central, and I’ll be spending a lot of time in the dealer’s room and art show.  Hooray!

From Birds of Prey #3 (vol. 2)

Lady Blackhawk to Hawk:
... Mister, tell you for nothin', you are getting on my nerves.
